Uncle Joe, was in Africa, managing the repair and up keep of the Tanks and other epuipment. Jim Spingola a tank commander in Africa and than into Europe remembered also a mechanic named Dempsey, who used a tank with a four inch pipe welded on the front of the turret to look like a cannon, as a service vehicle to come up to service the tank, Spingola's tank had a three cylinder engine. Jim said: When starting up in the morning the engine made a terrible racket, the Germans would lob rounds in the directions of the sound hoping for a lucky hit.

James Spingola, a good man, died sanding the South Lake Tahoe High School hill one winter, he worked for the school district as an electrician.

Uncle Joe: Joseph Adalian was drafted into the army at the age of 47, given a commission of Technical Sargent later promoted Master Sargent.

In foreign affairs, Elizabeth practiced a policy of strengthening England’s Protestant allies and dividing her foes. Elizabeth was opposed by the pope, who refused to recognize her legitimacy, and by Spain, a Catholic nation that was at the height of its power. In 1588, English-Spanish rivalry led to an abortive Spanish invasion of England in which the Spanish Armada, the greatest naval force in the world at the time, was destroyed by storms and a determined English navy.

I have been to Gettysburg once. It is a huge battlefield. Many other Civil War battlefields that I have been to (and Yorktown from our War of Independence) are surprisingly small. And I stood at the spot where Lincoln gave his address.

On November 19, 1863, at the dedication of a military cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, during the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln delivers one of the most memorable speeches in American history. In just 272 words, Lincoln brilliantly and movingly reminded a war-weary public why the Union had to fight, and win, the Civil War.

The Battle of Gettysburg, fought some four months earlier, was the single bloodiest battle of the Civil War. Over the course of three days, more than 45,000 men were killed, injured, captured or went missing. The battle also proved to be the turning point of the war: General Robert E. Lee’s defeat and retreat from Gettysburg marked the last Confederate invasion of Northern territory and the beginning of the Southern army’s ultimate decline.
