Chinese leader meets Davos elite as voters revolt

The shift from left v. right to globalism v. nationalism is well underway, despite the fact that many look at you with glassy eyes when you remind them. It is dominating this years meeting at Davos. Global leaders meet at the World Economic Forum next week in the Swiss Alps town of Davos.

China's president will preach the advent of a new world order in Davos next week before the high priests of globalisation, who are facing an uprising from voters against their orthodoxy of open markets and borders.

The annual conclave of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss Alps, grouping 3,000 delegates from the worlds of government, business, science and the arts, has created the caricature of "Davos Man", a rich, rootless globetrotter who worships with fellow disciples in the church of free trade.

But populists are singing from a radically different hymn sheet. Their hostility towards both unfettered trade and immigration has already yielded Britain's vote to leave the European Union and the rise of once-fringe parties across Europe, including in France and Germany.

The ultimate rebuke to "Davos Man" will come on Friday, the last day of the week-long forum, when Donald Trump is inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States.

And the consensus of a rules-based global order led by Washington is threatened by communist China's inexorable rise.

A couple of points:

- Free trade (as practiced, which turned out to not be fair to some nations) always had its critics, but not enough to shift the political landscape. It was the push for open borders and the migrant crisis in Europe that broke the camel's back. Why? Culture matters.

- China (and Russia) are not part of the Western Globalist elite. I expect the Chinese President will tell the globalists at Davos the error of their ways. As an aside, Russia is lashing out against the globalists and is resisting them economically and globally.

Globalization is good for some and a scourge on most. You take a country like mexico that is so corrupt and criminal and murderous to its own people. A country that has a leadership that sucks everything out of the country and gives nothing back to the people. You have throngs of poor, they run over the border and what you have is a created mess in the USA and a mexico that is exactly as bad as it was before.

That dilution for the worst is happening around the world with different cultures. The better approach is to fix the county and its people where it is

I agree. I am not opposed to trade. So long as it is fair. It may not be worth it for the US to make low end items. Let the developed world do it. But look what Japan use to do with our cars when we tried to import them into Japan.

Economic globalism we can work on and fix the issues.

Cultural globalism is a problem. Look at what European elites are telling women in Europe: "You have to understand the migrants (especially males)." You have to put up with their culture even if it clashes with several decades of feminist thought. This is utter insanity. In addition to the rape culture, in general the Muslims coming into Europe have no desire to assimilate. They are calling for a Caliphate in the countries that have taken them in and are housing them and providing generous welfare benefits.

World domination only requires that those to be dominated not be nations.

Davos seems to only concern itself with economic globalism. I am not totally against it; but it can be made more fair.

I am against cultural globalism with its attempts to remove borders and culture. Won't work any time soon.
