Postby Peter1469 » Fri Nov 25, 2016 10:17 pm

The sailor killed in Syria was an EOD guy. RIP, sailor.

RIP

The Defense Department announced Friday evening the identity of the service member killed in northern Syria while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Scott Cooper Dayton, 42, of Woodbridge, Virginia, was killed in an improvised explosive device blast on Thursday near Ayn Issa.

He was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Two, which is based in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

42 is old for military deaths. Most of them are not 20 yet.

That's what I would have guessed.

But still, this guy was probably approaching retirement and the rest of his life.

Yes- it is very likely he was close to his 20 year retirement. Had I stayed active duty I would have retired at 37. I retired in the reserves which has other advantages, but I don't get paid until 60.
