Berlin terror attack: truck plows into Christmas Market

This reminds me of Nice, France and the attack there. The article that I linked to appears to be updated regularly. Apparently there were two attackers in the truck. One was killed and the other captured. I suspect we will know about the suspect soon.

A truck ploughed into a crowded Christmas market in the German capital Berlin on Monday evening, killing nine people and injuring up to 50 others.

According to local police, the first indications pointed to a terrorist attack on the market, situated at the foot of the ruined Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church.

The incident evoked memories of an attack on Nice in France in July when Tunisian-born man drove a 19-tonne truck along the beach front, mowing down people who had gathered to watch the fireworks on Bastille Day, killing 86 people. The attack was claimed by Islamic State.

I used to live in an apartment just a couple of blocks from that market area. Berlin was the coolest city I have ever seen. It had incredible night life.

I did hear that the personality of the city changed dramatically after the wall went down.

Seems its a terror attack and thats another nail in Merkels re election coffin. I hope they give her the boot

The Berlin attack suspect has been killed in a shootout with police in Milan.

Anis Amri, a 24-year-old Tunisian, had eluded capture since the attack on Monday that killed 12 people and injured another 48 in the German capital.

Italian interior minister Marco Minniti said during a news conference that the man killed in the shootout was identified as Amri "without a shadow of a doubt".

He was stopped near the train station in the northern Italian city at around 3am (2am UK time) on Friday.
